Fed: Labor says inquiry results should be public
Opposition defence spokesman ROBERT MCCLELLAND says the results of a government inquiry
into military equipment failures need to be made public.
Defence Minister BRENDAN NELSON has ordered has two independent reviews into military
equipment and spending .. in the wake of concerns about mismanagement.
Mr MCCLELLAND says Labor welcomes the fact that there's going to be a form of review
.. but he says there's been a tendency with military inquiries to keep the reports secret.
Soldiers have revealed problems with equipment .. including flammable combat jackets
.. boots that cause serious foot injuries .. ill-fitting body armour .. and camouflage
clothing that glows.
Mr MCCLELLAND says the minister needs to talk to grass-roots servicemen and women about
their concerns.
