FED: Aussie claims fifth victory, record in Empire State race

By Kim Arlington

SYDNEY, Feb 5 AAP - Most visitors to New York's Empire State Building catch a liftto the top, but Paul Crake prefers to take the stairs.

Today the Canberra triathlete won the 26th annual foot race to the skyscraper's 86thfloor, claiming his fifth consecutive victory and breaking his own record.

He sprinted up 1,576 stairs in nine minutes and 33 seconds - an effort that would makegym junkies labouring on Stairmasters weep.

Crake, 26, blitzed a field of 115 international competitors and said winning the racewas "always a great buzz".
