NSW: Fire evacuees given assistance at centres
About 70 evacuees from fires in Sydney's north-west have spent the night at the DuralCountry Club where offers of help are flooding in and Christmas celebrations are takingplace.
But the locals are facing a renewed threat as the fire direction has switched, turningit back towards the area it devastated yesterday.
Country club general manager JOHN HOWES says some Glenorie residents as well as motoriststrapped by the fires have sought refuge at the club from late yesterday.
Mr HOWES says the wind has turned back, gusting northwards, and the blaze is expectedto backtrack putting at risk homes saved yesterday.
Mr HOWES says offers of help have begun flowing into the club including a woman whooffered to open the doors to her three bedroom home to anyone who has lost their house.
A local cattery is also offering free accommodation to pets affected by the blazes.
