ONE-STOP

BRISBANE, Dec 21 AAP - A further 11 rural and remote Queensland communities will join
a state government scheme to provide enhanced "one stop" access to government services.

Rural communities minister Henry Palaszczuk said the offices would open at Aramac,
Blackbutt, Barcaldine, Camooweal, Crows Nest, Goombungee, Lowood, Maleny, Middlemount,
Surat and Tara by the end of fiscal 1998-99.

CARE

BRISBANE, Dec 21 AAP - A $625,000 "long-day" child care centre would be built in the
Ipswich suburb of Raceview, federal community services minister Larry Anthony said.

To be licenced for 46 places, it would be jointly financed by the federal government
and the Churches of Christ.

The design included large verandahs and external shades to provide sun shelter.

TRUST

BRISBANE, Dec 21 AAP - The Brisbane City Council today handed more than $70,000 cash,
plus food vouchers and toys to 30 charities as part of the annual Christmas support for
needy families.

The money came from the Lord Mayor's Community Trust and the other items were donated
to the Lord Mayor's Christmas Appeal.

HALL

BRISBANE, Dec 21 AAP - Doug Hall, Queensland Art Gallery director since 1987, was presented
with an honorary Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Queensland today.

Mr Hall had established the gallery as the leading state gallery in Australia, the
university said in a statement.
