NSW: Australia joins fight to reduce worldwide debt
SYDNEY, Feb 20 AAP - Australia officially joined the global fight to reduce worldwide
debt today with the launch of an organisation designed to pressure the government to cancel
debts owed by developing nations.
Jubilee Australia is a branch of Jubilee 2000, launched in the UK in 1990 with a target
of writing off the $US370 billion ($A701.42 billion) worth of debt worldwide by the year
2000.
Jubilee 2000 achieved only a fraction of its target by the deadline but was considered
